Apple to Release macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16.1 on October 24

Posted October 18, 2022 | Apple | iPadOS | Mac and macOS | Windows

After a one-month delay, Apple will release macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16.1 publicly on October 24, the firm revealed today as part of a massive series of announcements that included new iPad, iPad Pro, and Apple TV models.

“macOS Ventura makes the things you do most on Mac even better, with powerful new ways to get more done, share and collaborate in your favorite apps, immerse yourself in next‑level games, and take full advantage of your other devices,” an Apple description explains. “iPadOS 16 gives you powerful new ways to do more than ever, share and communicate with the people who matter, and level up your productivity.”

Both OS releases were originally expected in September alongside the release of iOS 16, but both were delayed for the same reason: difficulties in implementing a key shared experience called Stage Manager that provides a simpler new multitasking experience on the Mac and a more capable new multitasking experience on the iPad. The iPad version was particularly tricky because Apple initially intended to limit its release to M1/M2-based iPads but relented to criticism and will support it on the previous two iPad Pro generations as well.

Because iOS and iPadOS share the same underpinning and are updated concurrently, the first release of iPadOS 16.x will actually be version 16.1: Apple will presumably release the iOS 16.1 update on or around October 24 as well.

You can learn more about macOS Venture and iPadOS 16.x from the Apple website.
