Automatic Edge Rollout to Expand to Education, then Businesses
Four weeks after Microsoft began automatically deploying the new Edge web browser via Windows Update, it is announcing how and when it will expand the rollout to its education and business customers.
“We are making our new browser—with the latest security features—more broadly available through Windows Update,” Microsoft’s Elliot Kirk writes in the announcement post. “Beginning no earlier than July 30, 2020, Microsoft will update Microsoft Edge Legacy to the new Microsoft Edge browser by Windows Update on Windows 10 devices in education and business.”
The first updates will head to education so that PCs can be ready in time for the back to school season, and Microsoft says it will provide an update on the schedule for business PCs later. Additionally, this update will not impact PCs in education and business that are updated in managed infrastructures using Windows Update for Business (WUfB) or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Microsoft notes.
Microsoft previously announced the automatic deployment of the new Edge via Windows Update to individuals in early June.
