Fitbit is Killing Desktop Sync
Thanks to the proliferation of smartphones, Fitbit will end support for PC and Mac syncing with its wearables in late 2022.
“On October 13, 2022, we’re removing the option to sync your Fitbit device with the Fitbit Connect app on your computer,” a Fitbit support document explains. “Download and use the Fitbit app on your phone to sync your device.”
Most Fitbit users are probably syncing their wearable data to their accounts with their phones already. But Fitbit has, to date, provided a Fitbit Connect app for Windows and Mac that lets customers sync Fitbit devices to their accounts. This app requires Bluetooth, so Fitbit still sells a wireless sync dongle (shown above) for those who have PCs or Macs without that feature.
The Fitbit Connect app also lets users sync music to select Fitbit wearables. That, too, is going away.
“On October 13, 2022, we’re removing the option to transfer playlists to your Fitbit watch through your computer,” Fitbit explains. “You can continue to play personal music stored on your watch and transfer music to your watch with the Deezer app and Pandora app.”
