Google will be holding a search and AI event next week on February 8 (via 9to5Google). The event will be live-streamed on YouTube at 8:30 AM ET, and Google will likely detail its response to chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Join us to learn how we’re opening up greater access to information for people everywhere, through Search, Maps and beyond,” the event description reads.

Google has reportedly seen ChatGPT as a “code red” threat to its search business, and the company is said to be testing ChatGPT-like competitors internally. Google is also reportedly experimenting with an alternate search page with a question-and-answer format.

According to research from investment bank UBS (via CBS News), ChatGPT has already surpassed 100 million users in just two months, making it one of the fastest-growing apps of all time. And OpenAI isn’t slowing down with the recent launch of a new ChatGPT Plus plan that provides response times and priority access to new features and improvements.

Even though Google has been the dominant search engine for decades, the rise of ChatGPT has definitely been a wake-up call for the company. Microsoft has recently extended its partnership with OpenAI, and the Redmond giant reportedly plans to integrate a faster version of ChatGPT into its Bing search engine in the coming weeks.
