Google Docs’ AI-powered Grammar Checker Is Coming to All G Suite Users

Posted February 26, 2019 | AI | G Suite | Google | Google Docs | Windows

Back in July of last year, Google announced a bunch of new AI-focused features for G Suite. One of the highlights was the new AI-powered grammar checker, and that is finally coming to all G Suite users, at least for Google’s commercial customers, anyway.

Google Docs’ new grammar checker uses artificial intelligence to identify more of the complex grammatical concepts that are almost never noticed by traditional spellcheckers. The feature utilizes machine learning to improve over time, and there’s also a pretty easy way of differentiating between traditional spellchecking and the new AI-powered grammar checker.

Instead of suggesting corrections through red underlined squiggly lines, the new AI-powered grammar checker highlights things in blue squiggly lines instead. You will also be able to review the suggestions and errors when you are manually running a spelling check on Google Docs.

Google says the company is also introducing an improved interface reviewing language suggestions and checking your spelling/grammar errors within Google Docs.

All of this is pretty sweet, but the main problem here is that the feature continues to be limited to G Suite business customers. This means if you are a consumer using Google Docs, you won’t be getting the new AI-powered grammar checker. Google is only making it available to G Suite Basic, Business, and Enterprise users for the time being.
