Google Maps Expands the Ability to See Speed Cameras

Posted May 29, 2019 | Google | Google Maps | Windows

Google Maps has been testing the ability to see speed limits and speed cameras for a while. The feature is taken from the company’s Waze app, and it’s quite popular for those who don’t really want to get caught by speed cameras.

Google has been rolling out the feature for a while, and it’s already been available in some countries over the last month or so. The company is now, however, rolling the feature out to over 40 countries worldwide.

Google confirmed to TechCrunch that the company is indeed rolling out the new feature to users in over 40 countries, including: Australia, Brazil, U.S., Canada, U.K., India, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.

The feature is rolling out to users on Android and iOS, but Android users are able to report mobile speed cameras and stationary cameras, while iOS users are only able to see those during their drive. The feature is still very much in development, and may not be fully reliable, especially in terms of notifying you about speed cameras.
