The Google One app has provided phone backup capabilities to subscribers since last year, but now that’s available for free as well.

“Google One [is] a membership that gives you more out of Google,” Google’s Larissa Fontaine writes. “We started with expanded storage plans, the ability to share your storage with family members, live support for all your Google questions, and member benefits like Google Play credits and Google Store member rewards.”

Google added automatic phone backup capabilities for Google One subscribers last year, on Android. But now it is extending that offer to everyone on both Android and iOS, even to non-paying non-subscribers. (The only catch is that you have to be in market where Google One is offered.)

Also free is a new storage management tool that lets you see how you’re using phone storage and free up space when needed.

Obviously, anyone who needs more than the 15 GB of free storage that Google provides with any Google account, you can upgrade to a Google One membership right from the app.

These new features will be rolling out in “the coming days” on Android and “soon” on iOS, Google says.
