Intel took the wraps off its 13th Gen Core desktop CPUs today. There are 22 new CPUs in total, including the $589 flagship Core i9-13900K that offers up to 24 cores, 32 threads, and clock speeds up to 5.8Ghz.

Once again, Intel’s 13th Gen Core processes are powered by a new hybrid architecture that combines Performance cores and Efficient cores. As an example, the new Core i9-13900K comes with 8 Performance Cores and 16 Efficient cores.

“The 13th Gen Intel Core desktop processor lineup adds more E-cores and up to 41% better multi-threaded performance to handle multiple, compute intensive workloads to keep people in the creative flow,” Intel said today. The company also promised up to 15 percent better single-thread performance on its flagship CPU.

Intel’s 13th gen Core CPUs support PCIe Gen 5.0 and DDR5-5600 and DDR5-5200 memory, though they’re still compatible with DDR4 memory. The company also announced today a new Intel 700 Series chipset with eight additional PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes and improved USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps) connectivity speeds. However, the new CPUs are still compatible with existing motherboards with Intel 600 chipsets.

The new Intel 13th Gen Core CPUs will be available starting October 20. They will go head to head with AMD’s latest Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, which are officially launching today.
