Leaked Renders of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Show Off Incremental Updates

Posted January 26, 2018 | Android | Galaxy S9 | Hardware | Samsung | Samsung Galaxy S9 | Windows

Not too long ago, Samsung sent out invites for its Unpacked 2018 event, where the company will be taking the wraps off its new Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones. There’s not been a lot of leaks about the S9 and S9+ to date, but renders of both the devices have been leaked by VentureBeat today, showing off the latest updates to Samsung’s Galaxy line.

Now, of course, the Galaxy S8 was a substantial upgrade for the Galaxy line last year — which means Samsung won’t be coming out with anything too exciting this year. And that’s exactly what the leaked renders, pictured above, suggest. Going by the design on the renders, it seems like the bezels around the displays are slightly bigger. This could be a case of an inaccurate render, though, so we will have to see how the device actually looks in real life to be able to compare the design to last year’s S8.

In terms of specs, not a lot of things are changing. The regular S9 will come with a 5.8-inch display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The bigger S9+ packs a 6.2-inch display, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. Both the devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845. Samsung is also including stereo speakers with the new S9, and that will be a welcome addition to many.

As teased by Samsung recently, the new S9 comes with a “reimagined” camera. According to the report, the S9’s 12MP camera on the back can now record “super slow-mo” 480fps videos at 720p. The company has integrated a new system that lets users switch between f/2.4 and f/1.5 apertures on the camera, too. The bigger S9+ will come with a dual-camera setup, and Samsung has apparently tweaked the design of the back of the device to allow for a better placement (finally!) of the fingerprint scanner. And the Bixby button? It’s still here, sigh.

Either way, Samsung will be officially launching its new Galaxy S9 line on February 25, and shipping on March 16.
