Lenovo Launches New Yoga Devices With AI-powered Privacy Features

Posted January 8, 2019 | CES 2019 | Hardware | Lenovo | Lenovo Yoga | Lenovo Yoga C730 | Lenovo Yoga S490 | Windows

Lenovo is launching a bunch of new consumer-focused Yoga products today. The company launched a few business-focused products like the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga yesterday, and it’s now finishing up its CES 2019 announcements with the new consumer-focused Yoga devices.

The company’s new Yoga S490 is a 13.9-inch device with a focus on AI-powered privacy features. The device’s display, which you can get with either a 4K UHD or an FHD panel with Dolby Vision, comes with “Contour Glass” that wraps around the display, kind of like Samsung’s old Galaxy Edge phones, offering a screen-to-body ratio of over 90%. The device comes with Intel’s latest 8th gen core processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD storage, and promises to offer up to 15 hours of battery life on the FHD variant and 9.5 hours with the 4K UHD panel.

But let’s talk about the privacy features: Lenovo is including a bunch of Smart Assist features that use the cameras on the device to offer smart privacy features. It can track when you are not around and automatically lock your device so no one can read your screen, for example. It can even notify when someone is shoulder surfing from your screen and allow you to move windows between different screens using your eye. And lastly, the device includes a feature that will automatically “unfocus” or blur the background during video calls, and automatically filter out background noise from your audio input to make your voice more clear on video and voice calls.

Coming in an Iron Grey finish, the Yoga S940 will be available this May, starting at $1,499.

And then there’s the new Yoga C730. Lenovo is upgrading the 15-inch 2-in-1 with a new 4K AMOLED display. The new 4K AMOLED display on the device introduces much better color clarity and contrast with a 100% color gamut, and the difference seems to be really visible at first glance.

The AMOLED display also means the display will emit 20% less blue light which should help your eyes. The device now comes with upgraded 8th gen Intel Core i7 processors, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 512GB of PCIe SSD storage. The device features JBL Speakers and Dolby Atmos for headphones, as well as far-field microphones for Cortana and Alexa.

Coming in an Iron Grey finish, the Yoga C730 will be available in April, starting at $1649.99. The device, interestingly, won’t be sold in the United States.

Lenovo is announcing a couple of other Yoga products today, like the new Yoga A940 AIO with the similar Smart Assist features as the Yoga S490, and the new $69.99 Yoga Mouse with a laser presenter available from June.
