Microsoft Extends End of Service Date for Windows 10 Version 1809

Posted April 14, 2020 | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows Update

Microsoft today announced it’s extending the end of service date for Windows 10 version 1809, aka the Windows 10 October 2018 update. The change will be a relief for many, considering the current world situation.

The original end of service date for Windows 10 version 1809 was actually a lot sooner than you might have thought. In fact, the original end of service date was set for May 12, 2020. Microsoft is now giving users some extra time due to the disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Windows 10 version 1809’s new end of service date is November 10, 2020. The new end of service date applies to the Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and IoT Core editions of Windows 10.

“We have been evaluating the public health situation and understand the impact this is having on many of our customers. To help ease some of the burdens customers are facing, we are going to delay the scheduled end of service date,” Microsoft noted on its website.

Microsoft will continue to release patches till November 10.

The change in plans means Microsoft will now release the final security update for the affected Windows 10 variants running version 1809 on November 10, 2020, instead of May 12, 2020.
