Microsoft Is Bringing 1440p Support to Xbox One Family

Posted February 16, 2018 | Windows | Xbox One | Xbox One S | Xbox One X

Microsoft’s Xbox One consoles are getting support for 1440p with an upcoming update. Xbox team’s Kevin Gammill‏ today teased the new feature, first being rolled out to Xbox Insiders.

With support for 1440p on the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, users will be able to get a better gaming experience. A lot of Xbox One X owners don’t actually have a 4K display to play native 4K games on, so support for 1440p will allow them to benefit more from the Xbox One X’s power with improved game visuals with the use of supersampling. The Xbox One X already uses supersampling to support 1080p displays, but that’s not maximising the full power of the One X, and support for 1440p will allow gamers with a 1440p display to get more out of the console.

As for the Xbox One S, it’s not clear if Microsoft will be enabling 1440p for gaming, and it’s very likely 1440p support is only coming for video playback. Microsoft isn’t sharing many details on 1440 support for the Xbox One family just yet, but we’ll keep you posted once the update is officially rolled out to all consoles.
