The Windows Community Toolkit 6 includes a XAML Islands update, ARM64 support, new controls, and more.

“The Windows Community Toolkit version 6.0 [was] made possible with help and contributions from our developer community,” Microsoft’s Michael A. Hawker writes. “This release brings ARM64 support to the toolkit as well as an update to XAML Islands for .NET Core 3 support. In addition, we have new features like the EyeDropper control and new Win32 notification helpers. We also have an update to our preview of Microsoft Graph enabled XAML controls.”

Here’s what’s new.

XAML Islands + .NET Core 3. XAML Islands is a big part of Microsoft’s new strategy to bring Windows 10-specific UWP capabilities, including controls and inking, to existing WPF, Windows Forms, and C++ Win32 applications. This release improves support for .NET Core 3 and makes it even easier to get started, Microsoft says. You can learn more about XAML Islands here.

ARM64 support. The Windows Community Toolkit can be used to create applications that target ARM64.

Lottie Improvements. Lottie-Windows is a library for rendering Adobe AfterEffects animations natively in your applications, and this update adds more of these features, including Linear and Radial Gradients, Masks, Track Mattes, and codegen support for Image Layers. You can learn more here.

New Eye Dropper control. A new Eye Dropper control provides an easy way to add color selection to your applications. You can learn more here.

XAML Graph Controls (Preview). This new addition, now in preview, lets developers authenticate and access the Microsoft Graph in Windows 10 apps. The controls work with UWP apps and in WPF/WinForms for Win32 apps via XAML Islands on .NET Core 3. And they’re coming to Android and iOS soon via Xamarin and Uno. You can learn more here.
