As Microsoft published earnings results for the first quarter of its new fiscal year yesterday, the company announced a new milestone for its Xbox Cloud Gaming service. During Microsoft’s earnings conference call, CEO Satya Nadella said that “more than 20 million people have used the service to stream games to date.”

Back in April, Microsoft announced that more than 10 million players had tried Xbox Cloud Gaming on more than 6,000 types of devices since launch. This number doubled in just six months, and it certainly helps that everyone can now use Xbox Cloud Gaming to play Fortnite on any device for free.

“We’re adding new gamers to our ecosystem, as we execute on our ambition to reach players wherever and whenever they want, on any device,” Satya Nadella said during the company’s earning calls. Xbox Cloud Gaming became available on 2022 Samsung Smart TVs and monitors this summer, and Microsoft is also working on its own “Keystone” Xbox streaming box device.

On the mobile front, more than 150 cloud-aware games now support touch controls on iOS, Android, and Windows tablets. Xbox Cloud Gaming is also accessible on Valve’s Steam Deck, as well as new handheld devices dedicated to cloud gaming such as the Logitech G Cloud and the Razer Edge 5G.

In addition to Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC Game Pass is also seeing real momentum with subscriptions increasing 159% year over year. Xbox hardware revenue was also up 13% this quarter, helped by Xbox Series S sales. “Nearly half of the Series S buyers are new to our ecosystem,” Nadella also said yesterday.
