Microsoft Teams is Headed to the Microsoft Store
Microsoft Teams will soon be available to download from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The software giant announced the upcoming release on its Microsoft 365 roadmap yesterday (via Neowin), and Teams is expected to land in the Store in May.
According to Microsoft, the Store version of Microsoft Teams will be different depending on your version of Windows. On Windows 10, the app will support work, school, and consumer accounts, while the Windows 11 version will only support work or school accounts.
The difference is likely the consequence of Windows 11 already shipping with a Teams for consumers app that’s updated through the Store. However, the existence of two separate Teams apps on Windows 11 has been the source of confusion and it looks like this new Microsoft Store app for work and school accounts isn’t going to change that.
Microsoft Teams recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, and the app being absent from the Microsoft Store for so long has been particularly odd. The Redmond giant now wants its Microsoft Store to be the easiest way to discover and download Windows apps, and core Microsoft apps such as Office 365, Skype, Paint, or NotePad are already available on the Store.
A more formal announcement for the release of Teams on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and Windows 11 will likely come during Microsoft’s Build developer conference on May 24-26. The event is usually packed with Teams updates and this year should be no exception.
