Microsoft has started testing a handy way to copy two-factor authentication (2FA) codes from notifications toasts on Windows 11. In the just-released Windows 11 Insider build 25295 for Dev Channel testers, users will now see a new copy button for quickly copying these 2FA codes received in notifications from both Windows apps or Android apps linked to a PC via Phone Link.

Clicking on the copy button will copy the 2FA code to the Windows clipboard, which then makes it easy to paste it into an app or web page. “We make a best effort to determine if a notification toast has an authentication code but please send us feedback if we got it wrong or if we failed to detect the code in a notification toast,” the Windows Insider team said today.

This feature doesn’t go as far as the Apple Continuity feature that automatically fills in SMS passcodes on iOS and macOS, but this is still a good step forward. If you’re still on the fence about enabling two-factor authentication on your most important accounts, maybe this feature will also make your life slightly easier.

In this build, Microsoft is also rolling out the new search box experience on the taskbar to all Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel. If you don’t like this new search box, you can still go back to a simpler search button by going to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Items.

If you’re a Beta Channel Insider, Microsoft has also released the Windows 11 preview builds 226211.1255 and 22623.1255 today with minor bug fixes. Moreover, the company has started rolling out tabs in NotePad to all Windows Insiders in the Beta channel today. The feature was previously rolled out to Dev Channel testers last month.
