Microsoft Word and PowerPoint’s Inking Capabilities Are Getting Smarter

Posted October 3, 2018 | AI | Inking | Office 365 | PowerPoint | Windows | Word

Microsoft is taking inking in Office a step further. The company announced new AI-powered features for inking in Word and PowerPoint at its New York event yesterday.

The updated Ink Editor in Windows 10 introduces new pen commands that let you do more things with your pen. You can now do things like splitting words, join words, add line breaks, add new words, and more without needing to touch your keyboard.

Microsoft is bringing the same improvements to PowerPoint, which is also getting an improved Designer feature. Designer can now take from your handwritten ink using AI, and suggest slide designs based on the handwritten ink. PowerPoint is also getting support for animations for 3D models, as well as 3D Embedded Animations that will make your slides more interesting than ever before.

Microsoft says the new updates are being rolled out in different stages — most of the updates are being rolled out to Office 365 subscribers right now, while the ink to Designer feature will start rolling out next month.
