Minecraft for Chromebooks is Now Being Tested in Select Markets

Posted February 13, 2023 | Chromebook | ChromeOS | Games | Minecraft | Mobile | Windows

Minecraft developer Mojang has quietly launched a trial version of the sandbox game for Chromebooks in select markets. On a support page spotted by Chrome Unboxed, the developer explained that the trial version aims to “capture platform-specific data for bug fixes and technical troubleshooting.”

Chromebooks are quite popular in the education market (that’s especially true in the US), and Minecraft for Education was already available on Chromebooks. However, that’s still not the case for the regular version of Minecraft, which remains the #1 best-selling game in the world.

This Minecraft Trial for Chromebooks only includes Survival mode, and each trial is limited to 90 minutes of gameplay. Unlike the regular version of Minecraft, it only includes the game’s classic Survival mode.

The trial version of Minecraft for Chromebooks is only available in 17 markets right now including Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Spain. The Chromebook trial can be found in the Google Play Store, and a Microsoft account isn’t required to try it.

We don’t yet when Minecraft will be officially released on Chromebooks, but this will all be thanks to ChromeOS adding support for Android apps a couple of years ago. Minecraft clearly isn’t the most demanding game, so it should be a good fit for the usually low-end specs still found on most Chromebooks these days.
