Oppo Just Made an Android-powered Apple Watch

Posted March 6, 2020 | Apple Watch | Hardware | Oppo | Oppo Watch | wearables | Windows

Oppo is revealing its first-ever smartwatch today, and it’s hard to overlook its resemblance with the Apple Watch. The company’s new smartwatch, the Oppo Watch, is essentially a direct clone of the Apple Watch design.

The main difference here, however, is the OS powering the smartwatch. It’s powered by Android, so the software experience is significantly different.

Oppos Watch is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2500 chipset and comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Like the Apple Watch, the Oppo Watch comes with an eSim, allowing you to make calls with the watch. It will also track your heart rate, sleep quality, menstrual cycles, etc. And you can, obviously, make payments with the Oppo Watch.

Unlike the Apple Watch, the Oppo Watch can not do ECGs, and that’s not a major surprise, to be honest.

Oppo is making two different sizes of the Watch: the 46mm variant comes with a 1.91-inch AMOLED screen and lasts for up to 40 hours on a single charge, while the smaller 41mm version features a 1.6-inch screen and lasts for up to 24 hours on a single charge. Both the models come with Oppo’s VOOC charging technology that lets you get 50% of the charge in just 17 minutes.

Oppo Watch will be available from March 24. The company is selling the 46mm variant for 1,999 yuan while the 41mm variant is selling for 1,499 yuan.
