PayPal Comes to the New Skype

Posted August 2, 2017 | paypal | Skype | Windows

Microsoft announced today that it is bringing PayPal to the mobile Skype apps, allowing users to transfer funds to each other seamlessly.

“At Skype, we work to make your life easier and more efficient,” a post credited to the Skype Team reads. “That’s why we developed Send Money, a Skype feature that allows you to transfer funds via the latest Skype mobile app while you’re in the middle of a conversation using PayPal.”

This new Send Money feature requires the new Skype clients, which for now means Android and iOS only. (Something tells me that Microsoft has adjusted its time table for bringing the client tech to Windows 10 based on negative feedback.)

Here’s how it works.

While chatting with family or friends via Skype, you can swipe right from the conversation view and tap Send Money. The first time you do so, you will need to confirm your location—this feature is available in over 20 locations at launch—and then link your PayPal account.

“Whether it’s to send money to your daughter studying abroad, reimburse a friend for grabbing milk at the store, or one of a million other reasons you might need to transfer cash, Send Money makes it easy and efficient,” Microsoft says.

And I gotta agree: This seems like a great idea.

Also, a side note: Since this feature is called Send Money and not “Pay with PayPal” or whatever, I assume Microsoft is at least open to adding other money transfer services in the future. Just a thought.
