Netflix is reportedly accelerating the launch of its new ad-supported plan, which could become available a full month before the launch of the Disney+ ad-supported tier on December 8. According to Variety, Netflix is now planning to introduce its new ad tier on November 1 in select markets including the US.

“Netflix’s ad-supported is set to go live Nov. 1 in multiple countries, including the U.S., Canada, U.K., France and Germany, according to industry sources who have been briefed on the streamer’s plans. That would be a little over a month before Disney+ Basic, priced at $7.99/month, hits the market in the U.S,” Variety reports.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Netflix’s new upcoming ad-based plan could cost between $7 to $9 a month. Users may see about four minutes of ads per hour before and during programs, but not after.

Netflix’s most popular Standard plan is currently priced at $15.49/month in the US, so the new ad-supported plan could cut that price in half. However, Netflix previously confirmed that some content won’t be available on this more affordable tier.

“We are still in the early days of deciding how to launch a lower-priced, ad-supported tier and no decisions have been made,” a Netflix representative told Variety.

Anyway, Netflix is certainly taking the competition from the upcoming Disney+ ad tier very seriously. Disney+ announced 152 million subscribers last month, while Netflix has 220.7 million but lost nearly 1 million of them in the past quarter. Lastly, Disney is reportedly exploring the creation of a “Disney Prime” membership program to offer discounts and perks across its different products and services.
