Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Tops DxOMark Camera Ratings

Posted August 13, 2019 | Android | Galaxy Note 10 | Mobile | Samsung | Windows

The Samsung Galaxy Note+ has achieved the highest-ever DxOMark scores for both selfie and rear-facing smartphone cameras.

“The new Galaxy Note10+ 5G has received the number one ranking on the DxOMark both front-facing and rear-facing cameras, as well as the top score for video,” Samsung announced. “The Galaxy Note10+ 5G was unveiled during last week’s Unpacked event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, alongside the Galaxy Note10+ which delivers the same image and video quality experience.”

“Thanks to hardware advancements such as a new chipset and a wider aperture on the tele[photo]-camera, improved algorithms and fine-tuning, the Note 10+ 5G has further improved on the excellent performance of previous high-end Samsung devices, making it the top-ranked device for image quality in our database,” DxOMark notes in its review of the handset. “It’s a solid all-rounder, with excellent still image and video quality in most lighting conditions. The Note 10+ 5G’s combination of excellent exposure, color, detail and bokeh for stills, together with excellent all-round video, means that it steals the top-spot spoils from the Huawei P30 Pro for now.”

The Galaxy Note+ scored 113 points overall, compared to 113 for the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10. It scored 118 in still photos, 101 in video, and 99 in selfies, with each score achieving the top spot in its category.

As Samsung notes, DxOMark is a trusted industry authority for camera, lens and smartphone image quality measurements and ratings, and it conducts its selfie and rear-facing camera tests using a rigorous scientific protocol and industry-grade lab tools. The DxOMark score is designed to provide consumers with neutral and reliable test data about smartphone camera performance.

That said, there is some controversy around the DxOMark tests, thanks to the suspiciously high score that was awarded to the OnePlus 7 Pro, which has an abysmal camera system, overall, when compared to other modern, high-end smartphones. The OnePlus 7 Pro camera is decidedly and obviously inferior to that of several handsets it outscored at DxOMark, including the Google Pixel 3 and 3a, the Apple iPhone XS Max, and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
