Microsoft and SAS announced a major partnership today in which Microsoft Azure becomes SAS’s preferred cloud provider.

“Through this partnership, Microsoft and SAS will help our customers accelerate growth and find new ways to drive innovation with a broad set of SAS Analytics offerings on Microsoft Azure,” Microsoft executive vice president Scott Guthrie said in a prepared statement. “SAS, with its recognized expertise in analytics, data science and machine learning, is a strategic partner for Microsoft, and together we will help customers across dozens of industries and horizontals address their most critical and complex analytical challenges.”

Under the terms of the partnership, the firms will work together to ensure that SAS products and solutions can be successfully deployed and run effectively on Azure. This includes optimizing SAS Viya, the firm’s cloud-native offering, for Azure and integrating SAS’s portfolio of solutions into the Azure Marketplace.

Additionally, Microsoft and SAS will “explore opportunities to integrate SAS analytics capabilities, including industry-specific models, within Azure and Dynamics 365 and build new market-ready joint solutions for customers that are natively integrated with SAS services across multiple vertical industries.” The first such integration includes the combining of Microsoft’s Azure IoT platform with SAS’s edge-to-cloud IoT analytics and AI capabilities, a solution that is already rolled out to help predict flooding in Cary, North Carolina.
