Tips and picks
Tip of the week: Watch the Xbox Alumni roundtable
Another one: Enable Windows 11-style menus in Chrome
App pick of the week: DuckDuckGo App Tracking Protection for Android
It’s built into the DuckDuckGo app, and in invite-only beta right now. But it’s amazing.
Enterprise pick of the week: SharePoint Server Subscription Edition
The new on-premises version of SharePoint quietly went GA at the start of November. This version, called SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, as its name implies, does require a non-optional subscription to get updates and security patches. Next question: Where are Exchange Server, Skype for Business and Project Server subscription editions? They were all supposed to be out before the end of 2021….
Codename pick of the week: Super Duper Secure Mode in Edge
Microsoft also quietly made available in Edge 96 its Super Duper Secure Mode. Now stable/mainstream users have the option of turning this on in settings. This feature removes JIT compilation from V8 in the name of improving security without sacrificing performance.
Thanksgiving cocktail pick of the week: Cider-Cranberry Thanksgiving Cocktail
- 2 parts apple cider
- 1 part cranberry juice
- 1 part vodka
- 1 part maple simple (50/50 maple syrup and water)
- 1/2 part lemon juice
Mix everything together, serve over ice, garnish with frozen cranberries.
This is a great cocktail if you’re hosting–you don’t want to be shaking up individual cocktails when you’re cooking Thanksgiving dinner. You can batch this cocktail early in the day and have it ready to go in a pitcher for when your guests arrive. (Purists will say you shouldn’t put the lemon juice in until right before you’re serving. I’m willing to bet your guests won’t notice if you make it ahead of time. Your call.)
