Sony has officially sold 100 million PlayStation 4 consoles. The company neared the 100 million mark back in April when it had sold 96.8 million units. And with the latest earnings report, Sony is reporting that the company has sold a total of 3.2 million units since April, bringing the total number of PlayStation 4s sold to 100 million.

With Sony’s next-gen console launch just around the corner and PlayStation 4 sales tanking, this is obviously a big deal for Sony.

This also makes the PlayStation 4 the fastest console to reach the 100 million milestone, according to analyst Daniel Ahmad. PlayStation 2 and Wii were just behind the PlayStation 4, but the PlayStation 4 became the fastest console to sell 100 million units in just 5 years and 7 months, compared to the PlayStation 2’s 5 years and 9 months.

This makes PlayStation 4 the fastest home console to reach 100 million unit sell in.

Faster than both the PS2 and Wii which were just behind.

Sony says the digital game download numbers have also surpassed that of physical games, and that’s been expected considering the steady growth in the sales of digital games as compared to physical copies.

Either way, the milestone here is massive for Sony. And although sales of the PlayStation 4 have already slowed down quite a bit, things will pick up once again for the company once it launches the PlayStation 5.
