Microsoft first announced its Surface-branded earbuds back in October of last year. The new earbuds were originally planned for a Holiday 2019 launch, but that obviously did not happen.

Microsoft later delayed the launch of the Surface Earbuds to Spring 2020, claiming that it was still working on getting all the details right. It looks like the company is finally ready to launch the new earbuds, though.

Surface Earbuds showed up at the FCC recently, hinting that the release is just around the corner. And that would make sense, considering the fact that we are expecting Microsoft to launch new Surface hardware in the coming weeks.

Microsoft actually also published the user manual for the Surface Earbuds as part of its FCC application. The manual does not really reveal anything, apart from showing how users would be able to pair their Surface Earbuds with their phone. It also reveals that the Surface Earbuds will come with three different-sized earbud tips, as well as the touch gestures that are available:

The user manual points to the new Surface Audio app, which users will have to use to update their Surface earbuds and change settings. It will also be the place where users have to setup Cortana and Microsoft 365 for use on the Surface Earbuds.

The application includes some real-life images of the earbuds, as well as some pictures showing the internal hardware. 

Microsoft’s Surface Earbuds will cost a whopping $249 when they launch. It includes Office/Microsoft 365 integration, real-time captioning, and Cortana integration. The earbuds offer up to 24 hours of battery life (with the charging case) and 8 hours of listening on a single charge. You can get 60 minutes of battery life with a single 10-minute charge as well.
