The New Microsoft Edge Lands on ARM

Posted January 16, 2020 | Microsoft Edge | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows 10 on ARM

Microsoft has finally released a pre-release version of its new Edge browser that works natively in Windows 10 on ARM.

“We’re happy to announce we have released the new Microsoft Edge for ARM to all Insider channels,” the release notes for Edge version 80 explain. “Microsoft Edge is now running natively for the ARM64 architecture, which is used in some Windows 10 devices like the new Surface Pro X. The ARM version of Microsoft Edge will automatically replace the previous configuration, in which the 32-bit version was running in an emulator.”

The release happened concurrently this week with that of the first non-preview versions of the browser, which are now available on Windows 7, 8.x, and 10, plus macOS. Presumably, the feature set is similar to those versions, though Microsoft notes that there are some video playback issues on “some premium media sites,” and that those issues will be addressed in an upcoming release.

You can find Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 on ARM—in Canary, Developer, and Beta flavors—on the Edge Inside website.
