Twitter Launches Brand New Twitter.com Experience

Posted July 15, 2019 | Social | Twitter | Twitter.com | Windows

Twitter is making its new Twitter.com experience public today. The company first started testing the new experience out as early as September of last year, and it’s made significant upgrades to the experience since. The new Twitter.com has now matured into a full blown desktop experience, and Twitter is now rolling it out to everyone.

The new Twitter.com introduces a brand new user interface that also comes with the new dark modes you have seen on Twitter for phones. The updated experience introduces an improved interface for Direct Messages. It also brings over Bookmarks to the desktop, something which a lot of Twitter users — including myself — have been waiting for. But more importantly, the new update makes it so you can now switch between all your different accounts just like you can on Twitter for phones.

The new experience is a massive move forward from the previous experience, so it will take a lot of getting used to. I personally like the new interface, but I feel like Twitter can optimize it a lot more to work better on desktops. Right now, it feels more of an app build for laptops and touch-screen devices, instead of something you’d actually want to use on your monitor.

The new Twitter.com is also built on a lot of new tech, and it’s a Progressive Web App — so if you have used the new Twitter Mobile experience or Twitter’s Windows 10 app, you will get the exact same experience on the desktop. That even means you can get push notifications, and install Twitter as an actual app on your Mac or Windows machine. And any updates to the Twitter.com experience will make its way to the Windows 10 app, too. “Our goal was to create one codebase – one website – capable of delivering the best experience possible to each person,” Twitter’s engineering team said.

The new experience is not only faster in terms of performance, but it will also allow Twitter to introduce new features faster than before. It’s rolling out today, so it will make its way to your browser soon.
