Valve Delays Steam Deck Past the Holidays

Posted November 10, 2021 | Games | Mobile gaming | PC gaming | Steam Deck | Valve | Windows

Well, that was inevitable. Valve announced today that it is delaying the Steam Deck past the holidays because of component shortages.

“The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months,” the firm revealed today. “We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.”

Value announced Steam Deck PC-based handheld gaming system this past July and said that it would start shipping in December, so a two-month delay moves that out to about February. That said, preorders have pushed the release out further for those who didn’t jump on it immediately. Valve notes that “all reservation holders keep their place in line, but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.”

Steam Deck starts at $399 for a version with 64 GB of eMMC storage, but there are versions with 256 GB and 512 GB of NVMe SSD storage for more.
