Walmart Launches $20 Google TV 4K Streaming Box

Posted April 14, 2023 | Google TV | Hardware | Walmart | Windows

Walmart has quietly launched a new version of its Onn streaming box that runs Google TV and supports 4K streaming. The new device was spotted by AndroidTV_Rumor on Twitter (via 9to5Google), and it’s priced at just $19.88. In comparison, Google’s Chromecast with Google TV dongle is priced at $49.99.

Walmart launched its first Onn streaming boxes running Android TV back in 2021, but the company stopped selling them late last year. The new version comes with a slightly faster Amlogic chip that supports AV1 decoding, 2GB of RAM, and just 8GB of storage. For less than $20, you do get an HDMI cable in the box and 2 AAA batteries for the remote, which has a built-in mic for Google Assistant.

While Dolby Audio is supported, there’s no mention of HDR or Dolby Vision support on the store listing. Still, this is probably one of the cheapest 4K streaming boxes on the market, and if you care about the built-in Chromecast functionality or the large ecosystem of Android apps available on Google TV, then this should be pretty good value.

Earlier this week, Google also announced a new live TV experience that will be available soon on all Google TV devices in the US. It will integrate 800 free TV channels across multiple providers directly into the Live Tab. Partners include news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, and many other channels across the world, and all of them will be watchable without having to download an app.
