Windows 10 Redstone 4’s Latest Build Brings Minor Improvements

Posted November 22, 2017 | Redstone 4 | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows 10 Redstone 4

It’s almost Thanksgiving time, but Microsoft’s Windows Insider team just released a new build of Windows 10 Redstone 4 to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring. The company is today releasing build 17046 for Insiders, which brings some minor new features to Microsoft Edge and other parts of the operating system. There aren’t any major new additions in the build, so don’t get too excited yet.

With build 17046, Microsoft Edge can finally save and automatically fill information in forms on web pages. While this is something you’d expect to see in any basic browser, the feature has been missing on Edge for a while now. Just like bookmarks and saved passwords, information from saved forms will be synced across your Windows 10 devices, although it doesn’t seem like you will be able to access the data on Microsoft Edge for Android or iOS just yet.

Another neat little addition in this week’s build is the ability to open Advanced Options for UWP apps by right-clicking on them from the Start Menu. Previously, you would have to go through Settings > Apps > Apps & Features in order to find the advanced options for an app, but the new menu item will make it much easier to access these options, so you can easily manage an app’s data, add-ons, or completely reset it.

As per usual, there are a number of input-related improvements in this week’s build. The touch keyboard now includes Fluent Design’s Acrylic effect, but more importantly, Microsoft is changing the behaviour of the new Emoji Panel introduced in the Creators Update, letting users pick multiple emojis at the same time. Rather than automatically closing after you pick an emoji, you will now need to manually close the updated Emoji Panel, and that could be quite annoying as you aren’t always going to need to enter multiple emojis at once. Microsoft isn’t giving users an option to turn this behaviour off, either. And yes, the emoji picker is still only available for users using the English (United States) keyboard.

There are a number of other minor improvements available as part of build 17046 of Windows 10 Redstone 4 — make sure to checkout the full changelog here.
