Windows 10 Version 2004 Usage More Than Doubled in August

Posted August 28, 2020 | Windows | Windows 10

AdDuplex reports that usage of the most recent Windows 10 version has surged in the past 30 days and is now installed on 24.1 percent of Windows 10-based PCs.

“[Windows 10 version 2004] is now on more than 24 percent of Windows 10 PCs,” the latest AdDuplex report notes, adding that this data is based on a survey of nearly 150,000 Windows 10-based PCs. “Windows 10 2004 share has more than doubled since last month.”

That’s a big jump from last month when just 11.6 percent of Windows 10 PCs were running version 2004. Windows 10 version 2004 debuted on the charts in June with just 7 percent usage.

So what’s the reason for the sudden surge in usage? I’m guessing it has to do with the news from early August, when Microsoft amped up its machine learning and resolved several long-standing upgrade blockers.

“We are now starting a new phase in our rollout,” Microsoft said at the time. “We are increasing the number of [PCs] selected to update automatically to Windows 10 version 2004 that are approaching end of service”
