Windows Terminal Shows up on the Microsoft Store

Posted June 21, 2019 | Dev | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows Terminal | Winodws 10

At Build 2019, Microsoft showed off a brand new terminal experience for Windows 10. The new Windows Terminal experience introduces a tabbed console experience that brings together the Command Prompt, PowerShell, and Windows Subsystem for Linux.

The preview of Windows Terminal has been available through GitHub for a while, where interested users can build the terminal for their own use from the source code. And yes, the new Windows Terminal is fully open-sourced.

And now, it seems like Microsoft is preparing for a preview release more suitable for Windows Insiders and the general public. An official listing for Windows Terminal’s preview has just shown up on the Microsoft Store, and you can even install it. The listing states that the release is an early preview build and includes usability issues. The listing was first spotted by Twitter user Stanzilla.

Here is the thing, though: the release doesn’t work just yet. The app will download and install just fine, but when you actually open it, you won’t actually get the terminal. That will probably be not the case once Microsoft officially launches the preview of the new Windows Terminal. And we will let you know when that happens.
