Xbox Design Lab Adds Support for Elite Series 2 Controller

Microsoft’s Xbox Design Lab now lets Xbox fans customize the company’s Elite Series 2 controller. The Xbox team said today that it has been a top-requested feature since the launch of the Xbox Design Lab in 2016, and there are now “billions” of ways to customize the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.

“Players can choose from a variety of different colors to customize nearly all the external parts of the Elite Series 2 controller including the body, back case, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, thumbsticks, and buttons. You can even choose between a cross-shaped or faceted D-pad and for the first time ever in Xbox Design Lab, color-customize the thumbstick base and ring,” said Daniel Ruiz, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Xbox Accessories.

Pricing for a customized Xbox Elite Series 2 controller starts at $149.99, which is $20 more than the white Elite Series 2 Core controller that the company recently launched. You still need to pay extra for the engraving option ($9.99) and a Paddles pack ($26.99), and the full Elite package with 4 additional thumbsticks, an extra D-pad, a carrying case, charger, and USB cable will cost you $209.99 in total.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller remains a great option for hardcore gamers as the adjustable-tension thumbsticks and back paddles can really make a difference in competitive games. However, this second-generation Elite controller hasn’t been spared by stick drift and other quality controls issues.

“We’ve heard players loud and clear and have continued to improve Elite Series 2 controllers to be more reliable than ever before with refined components that are built to last,” Microsoft said last month when it introduced its white Elite Series 2 controller. Microsoft didn’t share more details about the improvements it made to improve reliability, but Elite Series 2 controllers still come with Microsoft’s 1-year limited warranty.
