YouTube on TV Now Has Netflix-Like Opening Sound
YouTube is introducing a new launch sound and logo animation on its TV apps. The new YouTube sound is pretty much a Google version of Netflix’s “Tudum” signature sound, and the company hopes that this “vibrant new branding” will improve YouTube’s mindshare in the video streaming space.
“The initial idea behind the sound was to have something vibrant, engaging and easily recognizable, so that as soon as you hear it – even if you’re turned away from your TV or device – you know that something’s about to pop up on YouTube,” the company explained.
YouTube worked with the sonic branding studio Antfood to create a unique sound that would work across different platforms and audiences. The full blog post gives a good recollection of all the attention to detail that went into the creation of this sonic signature which is just 3 seconds long.
Google also created a new animation for the YouTube logo, and it’s a cool transition from the YouTube timeline bar to the iconic YouTube logo. While this is quite minimalistic compared to the Netflix logo animation, it’s probably a good thing that Google went for something that’s not too flashy or distracting.
“You’ll start to see the animation and hear the YouTube sound in more places over the next few weeks and months,” the YouTube team said. Let us know in the comments what you think of this new YouTube launch sound and animation.
