YouTube has started testing a new ‘Pinch to Zoom’ feature for Premium subscribers on mobile devices (via 9to5Google). The experimental feature lets users pinch the video player with two fingers to zoom in and out on a video, and also move around the zoomed video using their fingers.

Pinch-to-zoom is a pretty natural and intuitive gesture on mobile devices, and you can already do that on YouTube videos when viewing them on a web browser. However, most smartphone users would rather use native apps than web apps, so it probably makes sense for YouTube to bring this pinch-to-zoom functionality to its mobile apps.

If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber, this pinch to zoom feature can be enabled on YouTube’s experimental features page. On mobile, this page is available from YouTube settings. Google says that the new feature will be available until September 1st, and the company will be listening to feedback to improve it or rethink it.

All experimental YouTube features are not guaranteed to roll out to all users, and some of them can actually spend a lot of time in the oven. That was recently the case recently for picture-in-picture mode, which just started rolling out to more iOS users.
