YouTube’s Latest Redesign Is All About Bigger Thumbnails

Posted November 8, 2019 | Google | Music + Videos | Windows | YouTube

YouTube is getting a brand-new look on the desktop and tablets. Google has started rolling out a tweaked look for YouTube’s homepage on the desktop, as well as YouTube on Android and iOS tablets.

The new look has been under testing for a little while, and it introduces some interesting changes.

First and foremost, the new redesign introduces bigger thumbnails. Google has made the video thumbnails much bigger than before, which means the homepage can now show longer video titles and higher resolution video previews. The homepage will also now show the channel icon for each video. Google says the company has also gotten rid of some content shelves as part of the “cleaner” design, which is supposed to help users find what to watch more easily.

There’s a really useful feature as part of this update, though. YouTube now comes with a new Add to Queue feature on the desktop that allows you to save videos to watch after the current one is finished, kind of like your Spotify song queue. You can add videos to queue right from the homepage, though the queue won’t be saved when you close your browser.

And last but not least, the new redesign also allows users to tell YouTube not recommend videos from a certain channel on the desktop which is a really nice addition.

The new design for YouTube is rolling out this week, and it will be available to everyone shortly.
