Samsung Has a New Leader for Its Smartphone Business
Samsung is switching things around internally. The company announced a major restructuring of its organisation today, promoting several presidents inside the company. But more importantly, its smartphone business is getting a new boss.
Bloomberg reports that Samsung has assigned Taemoon Roh as the new head of its smartphone business. Roh will be succeeding Koh Dong-Jin, who has been overseeing Samsung’s smartphone business for years and will continue to head Samsung’s IT and mobile communications division going forward.
As for Roh, he’s starting as the head of Samsung’s smartphone business this week. Roh has been working at Samsung for about two decades and is apparently known internally as an engineering maven. He has long been the second top executive for Samsung’s smartphone business.
Roh will likely be leading Samsung into the launch of its next flagship phones in February. The company is expected to introduce a new foldable device and the new Galaxy S20 line next month. Going forward, Roh will also have to make sure Samsung’s brand reputation doesn’t get affected any further with more quality problems after the company faced two major quality issues in 2016 and 2019 under Koh’s leadership.
