Apple Testing Face ID and Touch ID Sign-In for iCloud.com

Posted July 8, 2019 | Amazon | Apple | iCloud | iOS | iOS 13 | iPadOS | Mac and macOS | Windows

Apple is finally making it easier to log in to your iCloud account, as long as you have an Apple device. The company is introducing the ability to sign-in to your iCloud account using Face ID or Touch ID.

9to5Mac reports that Apple is testing the new login option for beta testers of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina. The new feature is available on the beta version of iCloud.com at beta.icloud.com. The feature is very straight-forward: as soon as you go to iCloud’s login page, a login modal pops up from the bottom where you can use Face ID/Touch ID to sign in on your iPhone. The feature seems to work on third-party browsers as well, as I was able to use Face ID to login to my account on Chrome for iOS.

On MacBooks, the feature allows you to log in to your iCloud account using the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the device, although I am not too sure if that works with third-party browsers as well, or if it’s only limited to Safari.

This could be part of Apple’s plans to make logging into apps much easier on its devices with its new Sign in with Apple platform. It’s definitely a really nice addition as it doesn’t require two-factor authentication and lets you log in to your account within seconds.
