Google Assistant Comes to More Chromebooks

Posted September 24, 2019 | Chrome OS | Chromebook | Windows

Google is adding integrated support for Google Assistant to more Chromebooks with the latest version of Chrome OS.

“The latest version of Chrome OS brings the Google Assistant to more Chromebooks [and is] starting to roll out now to more non-managed, consumer devices,” Google’s Alexander Kuscher announced.  “The Assistant on Chromebook helps you stay productive, control your smart devices, and have a little fun along the way.”

By default, Assistant is configured to activate by typing after you type Search + A. (Chromebooks feature a dedicated Search key instead of Caps Lock.) But you can configure it to activate by voice by navigating to Settings > Search and Assistant > Google Assistant. After doing so, you can say “Hey, Google,” just as you do in Android.

As always, Google isn’t quite ready to document all of the new features in the latest Chrome OS version. It says it will do so in “around six weeks.” For some reason.
