Google Brings Its AI-powered Recorder App to Older Pixel Devices
When Google first launched the Pixel 4, the company showed off a lot of new tech that was under development for a while. One of the features was the impressive new Recorder app.
Google’s Recorder app uses artificial intelligence and speech recognition to automatically create audio transcripts in real-time, meaning you can even search through your audio recordings using the transcript.
There was one small quirk, though: the Recorder app was exclusive to the Pixel 4 line only, and that disappointed users of older Pixel devices. Google is now addressing that by bringing the Recorder app to older Pixel phones, including the Pixel 3a, Pixel 3, and the Pixel 2 devices.

Recorder on the older Pixel devices will work just like it does on the Pixel 4. Google originally said the company had no plans to bring the Recorder app to older devices, but that’s obviously no longer the case. The app is mainly amazing because of the fact that it does all the processing locally, so your voice recordings don’t get uploaded to Google’s servers for all the AI magic to happen. It will be interesting to see if Google eventually opens the app up to all Android devices in the future, though.
