Google Pixel 4 XL case renders leak

Posted July 19, 2019 | Mobile | News

One thing that can’t be confirmed at the moment, is whether the Pixel 4XL will contain a sensor for Google’s Project Soli sensing technology. As we mentioned last month, there is speculation that the new Pixels might use this technology that gives users more control over their device through the use of subtle hand gestures. Project Soli tracks “micro motions” of the hands through the use of radar. Recently, a sketch of the Pixel 4 XL (based on a render disseminated by @OnLeaks) stated that a hidden sensor would be placed in the right side of the top bezel. But the sketch doesn’t dovetail with the top bezel of the Pixel 4 XL seen on the case renders, which means that someone is mistaken. We might have to wait for the Pixel 4 XL to be unveiled, presumably this October, to find out if this will be a new feature on the phone.

Will we see the new Snapdragon 855+ power the new Pixels?

Just yesterday we passed along some leaked specs for the phones. The Pixel 4 screen will reportedly carry a resolution of 1080 x 2280 while the Pixel 4 XL’s display is said to weigh in at 1440 x 3040. That works out to an aspect ratio of 19:9 for both phones. For comparison purposes, the Pixel 3 resolution of 1080 x 2160 results in an 18:9 aspect ratio. The 1440 x 2960 resolution on the Pixel 3 XL gives the device an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Hey, here’s an interesting fact for your next dinner party; up until now every Pixel handset ever released has been equipped with 4GB of memory. And that includes the mid-range units that Google launched earlier this year. But it is time for a change and it looks as though the basic 2019 Pixels will sport 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. That would seem to indicate that other variants with 256GB of storage will be available.

While we expect the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform to be under the hood, it is not known whether the new Snapdragon 855+ chip will be employed. The new version of Qualcomm’s flagship chipset hikes the clock speed on the lone Kryo 485 Prime CPU core from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz. It also offers a 15% improvement in graphics performance. The chip maker says that the chip will be found in consumer devices starting in the second half of this year. The first phone to use the Snapdragon 855+ will be the Asus ROG Phone II gaming phone. There really is no reason why the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL can’t also be powered by the chip that is currently the fastest Android CPU according to a benchmark test. After all, Google has redesigned the Pixels and is looking to compete with Apple and Samsung this year.
