Google Play Games for PC Launches in Open Beta in 5 Markets

Posted August 25, 2022 | Games | Google Play | Google Play Games for PC | Mobile gaming | PC gaming | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows 11

Google Play Games for PC is now available as an open beta for Windows users in South Korea, Honk Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia (via Techcrunch). The service launched in closed beta in the same markets earlier this year, but players no longer need to join a waitlist.

With Google Play Games for PC, Windows users can play some of the most popular Android-based games and sync their progress with their Android phone or tablet. The Windows application currently provides access to select mobile games with keyboard and mouse support.

“In the last few months, we have more than doubled our Google Play Games catalog to 50+ titles, which can be played on Windows PCs via a standalone application built by Google. Our catalog includes many of the most popular mobile games in the world including Summoners War, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Last Fortress: Underground, and Top War. Together, these games are played by hundreds of millions of players globally,” Google said in a blog post.

Now that Google Play Games for PC is available in open beta in 5 markets, Google has also updated the minimum specs for using the app. Now, beta testers need a PC with Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, a quad-core CPU, an Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or comparable, 8GB of RAM, and 10GB of SSD storage. Hardware virtualization also must be turned on for the app to work.

Google plans to expand the Google Play Games for PC beta to other regions later this year. In the meantime, Microsoft has teamed up with Amazon to bring the Amazon Android App Store to Windows 11 in the US. The preview was recently expanded to Windows Insiders in Japan as well.
