Lower priced Surface 7 tablet with LTE support could be unveiled by Microsoft this week

Posted September 30, 2019 | Mobile | News

Microsoft will take the wraps off some new Surface devices this coming Wednesday, October 2nd. And the latest rumor about the Surface Pro 7 tablet that we passed along last Friday suggested that some of the contradictions in previous rumors about the premium tablet can easily be accounted for. Apparently, there will be two different variants of the Windows-powered slate including the classic “Harper” version that will be powered by tenth-generation Intel Core processors.
Supposedly there also will be a “Campus” variant of the device and today we might have some more clarification on this thanks to WCCFtech. The latter says that the “Campus” variant could be a cheaper version of the Surface Pro 7 called Surface 7. This is the model that will feature thinner bezels, LTE connectivity and carry the ARM-based Snapdragon 8cx chip under the hood. The USB-A and the MiniDisplayPort will both reportedly be replaced by a Type-C port.
Meanwhile, Microsoft tipster WalkingCat (@h0x0d) disseminated some promotional images from Microsoft for the upcoming event that use the tag line “Anything but ordinary.” One of the images, which could show someone holding the rumored Surface 7, has some interesting small print underneath the photo. It says, “LTE service availability and performance subject to service provider’s network. See specs and frequencies at surface.com.”
