Microsoft Edge Gets New Collections Feature

Posted August 20, 2019 | Collections | Microsoft | Microsoft Edge | Web browsers | Windows

Microsoft is adding a new feature to the new Chromium-based Edge browser. The company announced its Collections feature back in May, and it’s coming to Edge Insiders today.

Those on the Canary channel of Microsoft Edge will be able to try out the new feature today, though it’s disabled by default. You will have to enable a flag by going to edge://flags#edge-collections to enable the new feature, which will display an icon next to your profile on the address bar. From there, you can start to create new Collections.

Microsoft is also launching the beta channel for the new Microsoft Edge today.

The idea of Collections is that it lets you — well, collect — things from around the web into handy lists that you can use. This can be used for a trip you are planning, or a bunch of products you want to compare, or just for a research you are doing. When the Collections pane is open, you can drag-and-drop content from a website to a Collection, or even add the current page to the current Collection. You can also add content from a site using the right-click context menu.

Collections also lets you add notes which might be useful for annotating, and you can also export an entire Collection to Excel which is pretty cool. You will soon be able to export to Word, too.

Microsoft says this is an early preview of Collections, so it’s not at all perfect and there may be some bugs. Either way, if you want to try out, you can do so by downloading the Canary builds here.
