Microsoft Office Apps Now Work With the Files App on iOS

Posted April 10, 2018 | Files | iOS | iOS 11 | Office | Windows | Word

Microsoft released new updates to its Office suite of apps on iOS earlier this week. Along with the usual improvements, the latest update for Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook brings some new features.

With the latest update, Microsoft is enabling support for iOS’ default Files app, introduced with iOS 11, reports Neowin. Some of Microsoft’s app like OneDrive already supported the Files app in iOS, but with support for Files in apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, users can access documents stored in the Files app. For example, if you have some documents stored in Dropbox or Google Drive, you can open them in the Office applications via the Files app which is pretty neat.

The update brings some other new features to these apps. Outlook on iOS is now capable of notifying users when it’s time to leave for appointments, while Excel can now perform calculations on a selected range of data. Both Word and Excel are also getting updated to include new options such as rotate and resize for SVG images. These updates are available right now from the App Store as part of version 2.12.
