Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Insider Builds 25346 and 23440

Posted April 19, 2023 | Windows | Windows 11 | Windows Insider

Microsoft has just released two new Windows 11 builds for Insiders on the Canary and Beta Channels. While the changes are pretty minor, the Canary build 25346 introduces a new option to turn off HDR when a PC is running on battery, while the Dev build 23440 adds a new option to diagnose network problems right from the system tray.

You can find below the main new changes in these two new builds for Canary and Dev Channel testers. As we’ve already observed in recent flights, some features that shipped first on other channels eventually make their way to the Canary channel… even though the latter is supposed to be more advanced.

What’s new in the build 25346 (Canary channel)

Content Adaptive Brightness Control options in Settings: This feature can automatically adjust brightness when lighting changes to save power. It previously shipped on the Dev Channel build 23424 (https://www.thurrott.com/windows/281245/microsoft-releases-new-windows-11-insider-builds-for-the-canary-and-dev-channels), but it needs to be enabled by the OEM.

Redesigned remote desktop connection bar: The connection bar for remote desktop sessions now has a refreshed light/dark mode design.

Presence sensor privacy settings: A new page in the Settings apps lets users with compatible presence sensors manage presence sensing access and block apps from using these sensors. This feature previously shipped on the Beta Channel build 22624.1610.

Updated Windows Security (firewall) notification dialogs: After listening to user feedback, Microsoft is re-introducing the updated Windows Security (firewall) notification dialogs on this build.

New HDR settings when running on battery: Insiders can now easily turn off HDR (including for video streaming) when their PC is running on battery by going to Settings > System > Display > HDR

What’s new in the build 23440 (Dev channel)

Release Notes in Start Menu: Microsoft is testing a link to the release notes for Windows Insider builds in the “Recommended” section of the Start Menu.

Hide time and date in the System tray: Insiders can now hide the time and date in the taskbar by right-clicking on the System tray clock and choosing “Adjust date and time”.

Diagnose network problems from the System tray: Right-clicking on the network icon in the system tray now displays a new option to diagnose network problems.

New hover behavior for the search box: Microsoft is testing a change that displays the search flyout when you hover your mouse over the search box gleam. This can be turned off by right-clicking on the taskbar and choosing “Taskbar settings.”

That’s it for the main changes introduced in these two new flights. If you want to perform a clean install, Microsoft has also released ISOs for the builds 25346 and 23440 on its website.
