Motorola Launches New $1,000 Edge Plus Flagship Phone

Lenovo-owned Motorola is coming back to the high-end smartphone market. The company just took the wraps off its new Edge Plus flagship, a new $1,000 Android phone.

Motorola’s Edge Plus includes all the high-end specs we have seen on a couple of other flagship Android phones this year, so there isn’t a lot of innovation going on here. Either way, if you are a fan of Motorola’s affordable Android phones, you should keep reading.

The new Edge Plus features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor which means the device supports 5G connectivity out of the box. It features 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

There’s a triple camera setup on the back, with a 108MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical-image-stabilisation. There’s also a 16MP ultra-wide sensor with 117° FOV and f/2.2 aperture. And lastly, there’s the 8MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, OIS, and f/2.4 aperture. On the front, there’s a single 25MP sensor.

For the battery, you are getting a massive 5000mAh battery with fast 18W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W wireless power-sharing.

The device features a fingerprint reader, and there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack which is something we don’t get to see often in 2020, at least not in the high-end side of the market.

The new Motorola Edge Plus is actually exclusive to Verizon in the United States. In fact, the device supports both mmWave 5G and sub-6 5G on Verizon. The device will cost $999.99, or $41.66 a month with a 24-month contract. It’s available in two finishes: Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey.

Motorola is also making a regular version of the Edge, but it’s not revealing pricing details for that device just yet. It features the same display as the Edge Plus, the Snapdragon 765, 128GB storage, 4GB RAM, a triple-camera setup (64MP, 16MP, 8MP), a 4500mAh (no wireless charging or power-sharing) and 5G (both mmWave and sub-6) connectivity.
