Streamer Review Goes Live on Mixer on September 4
Microsoft announced today that its Streamer Review system for Mixer will go live on September 4, 2019.
“We want viewers to be entertained and supported on our platform when exploring new personalities, while our streamers on Mixer should be free to focus on creating great gameplay and fun content,” Microsoft’s Adam Harris wrote. “A few weeks ago, we shared how we are taking additional steps to improve the Mixer experience for our community of streamers and viewers.”
Harris is referring to a late July announcement in which Microsoft announced the steps it would take to reduce harmful content and toxic behavior, and cultivate a positive community on Mixer. Soon, the first such step, called Streamer Review, will go live.
Streamer Review will validate and monitor new streamers on Mixer, Microsoft says. New streamers will need to login with their Microsoft account, and there will be a 24-hour waiting period before a streamer can start their first camera-capable stream. During that time, Microsoft will also further screen the new streamer.
Existing streamers will also need to revalidate their streaming account on Mixer starting on September 4. They will be prompted to do so, and there is an early opt-in period, starting on Wednesday, for those who wish to get this out of the way sooner. Mixer partners and those with verified channels will not need to do so, however.
Additionally, Microsoft today is rolling out new chat moderation tools so that streamers can restrict the ability of some users to chat in their channels, according to different criteria.
As noted earlier, Microsoft is also retiring the Mixer Create mobile app; this will happen on August 28 (Wednesday). Streamers who would like to continue broadcasting directly from their mobile device are advised to check out the Streamlabs app instead.
