Windows 11 Subsystem for Android is Getting Android 13 Support and More

Posted October 21, 2022 | Android 13 | Windows | Windows 11 | Windows Subsystem for Android

Following the release of the Windows 11 22H2 Update last month, Microsoft gave the Windows Subsystem for Android a big boost. The Amazon Android App Store preview is now available in 31 markets, and the number of Android apps and games that are available for testing has been bumped to 50,000.

On the GitHub page for the Windows Subsystem for Android (via Windows Latest), Microsoft has now detailed its future roadmap for Android app support on Windows 11. The main upcoming feature is support for Android 13, the latest version of the mobile OS that was released back in August.

In addition to Android 13, the Windows Subsystem for Android is getting support for File Transfer from Windows to Android apps, app shortcuts, as well as local network access by default. Picture-in-picture support is another thing that Microsoft included in its Windows Subsystem for Android roadmap.

All these features should really help to make Android apps feel more like native apps on Windows 11. These apps already support basic features such as keyboard, mouse, and touch input, as well as window management and resizing.

The Windows Subsystem for Android is still in preview, and Microsoft actually released a new version of it for Dev and Beta Channel Insiders yesterday. This update improves camera support, multi-threaded performance, and general reliability.
